The biggest problem with artificial sweeteners and their impact on health is that the science is misinterpretered. A recent segment of The Dr Oz Show claims that light soda and low-calorie sweeteners lead to weight gain and adversely affect one’s metabolism. This was not based on scientific facts, but was probably a misinterpretation of recent publications. Increasingly, there are articles that claim that it has been scientifically proven that artificial sweeteners such as aspartame can cause cancer and that sweeteners contribute to the development of diseases such as overweight and diabetes.
